Karl Marx

Karl Marx was A German who made a big change during the time of the Industrial Revolution. He hated the treatments of workers in Europe.
Conditions in European factories were very harsh and unsafe. Marx argued that workers, rather than landlords, should control factories and farms. He urged the "workers of the world to unite" in a worldwide revolution. Marx's ideas were known as Communism, a word formed for common. Workers would share wealth in a communist society. Marx wrote that wealth should be distributed "from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." He was born a Jew, but his father converted the family to Christianity in order to get a job. Marx did not believe in god and thought workers were controlled by religion. He said, "religion is the opiate of the people." He soon died in 1883. Marx believed that workers would control government, but communist governments were strict and dictatorial. Workers were often forced to work on huge collective farms and factory workers.

Nationalism and italy

Nationalism..it means 2 things...1 the attitude that the members of a nation have when they care about their national identity and 2 the actions that the members of a nation take when seeking to achieve (or sustain) self-determination. for example people who volunteer to fight in the war on terror is a kind of nationalism because that person wants to do something and take action for his nation. Other types of nationalism also occour such as sovereignty, the usual focus of a national struggle for independence...like the revolutionary war. liberal nationalism is a kind of nationalism defended recently by political who believe that there can be a non-xenophobic form of nationalism compatible with liberla values of freedom, tolerance, equality and indevidual rights. xenophobia is a greek word used to state the fear people have from foreigners and other countrys. xeno meaning foreigners and phobia meaning fear. so liberal nationalism means when presidents and government can be a country who isnt scared of other countrys and will fight for freedom(non-xenophobic)....

Nationalism helped build Italy by separating Italy into smaller groups, there was many disagreements on how to let Italy stay in power or how to increase Italy's power. Many of the people in Italy wanted to unite the country after many trials of separation but systems were different. After many hardships, Italy was formed once again into a large country

Simon Bolivar

Simon Bolivar was one of South America's greatest generals. His victories over the Spaniards won independence for Bolivia, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. He is called El Liberator (The Liberator) and the "George Washington of South America."Bolivar was born in July 24, 1783, at Caracas, Venezuela. His parents died when he was a child and he inherited a fortune. As a young man, he traveled in Europe. As he returned to Venezuela, Bolivar joined the group of patriots that seized Caracas in 1810 and proclaimed independence from Spain. He went to Great Britain in search of aid, but could get only a promise of British neutrality. When he returned to Venezuela, and took command of a patriot army, he recaptured Caracas in 1813 from the Spaniards. The Spaniards forced Bolivar to retreat from Venezuela to New Granada (now Colombia), also at war with Spain. He took command of a Colombian force and captured Bogota in 1814. The patriots, however, lacked men and supplies, and new defeats led Bolivar to flee to Jamaica. In Haiti he gathered a force that landed in Venezuela in 1816, and took Angostra (now Ciudad Bolivar). He also became dictator there.Bolivar marched into New Granada in 1819. He defeated the Spaniards in Boyar in 1819, liberating the territory of Colombia. He then returned to Angostura and led the congress that organized the original republic of Colombia (now Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, and Venezuela). Bolivar became its first president on December 17, 1819.Bolivar crushed the Spanish army at Carabobo in Venezuela on June 24, 1821. Next, he marched into Educador and added that territory to the new Colombian republic. After a meeting in 1822 with another great liberator, Bolivar became dictator of Peru. His army won a victory over the Spaniards at Auacucho in 1824, which needed Spanish power in South America. Upper Peru became a separate state, named Bolivia in Bolivar's honor, in 1825. The constitution, which he drew up for Bolivia, is one of his most important political pronouncements.

The Mets

Ive decided to do this blog after watching the mets choke for the second straight year. The Mets are a great team but after winning the 2006 National League East division championship the mteam got a little bit to cocky. The mets were eliminated during the NLDS versus the St.Louis Cardinals. in 2007 the mets were going threw an amazing year, until they got cocky again and couldnt even make it to the post season"its so easy it gets boring" as stated Carlos delgado first baseman of the team. they were 7 games up with 17 games to go and they lost there chance to the last place team, The Marlins. in the first inning of that final game, Tom Glavine the veteran pitcher of the Mets gave up 7 runs. and that was the beggining of the end for that game. This year 2008 last year at shea the mets didnt get first place to easily they kept taking it and giving it up to rivalary team Phillies but when it got up to the final 17 games the luck started to turn again they were 3and 1/2 games up this time and for the second straight year lost to the Florida Marlins....the mets bullpen crisis continued. The mets are now losing there fans and when a team chokes they call it a "metropolitan choke".the teams failure wont make me stop liking them all though they dissapoint me ill be a met fan for life.

The Reign of Terror

The Reign of Terror was caused because the democracy was not granted to the people (Most of these people were of the 3rd class). They had to fight for it, and the Reign of Terror was one of the way to gain it. It took lots of death body and blood to gain the freedom they desired. This execution was carried out as they kept on beheading many people. All the people were scared and were not strong enough to go against him. But, at last they all stood together and executed him
